Truce:  The Day the Soldiers Stopped Fighting

Jim Murphy (2009), 115 pages
Audience: 5th Grade - 12th Grade
On December 25, 1914, during World War I, troops from both sides openly defied their officers and stopped fighting. The Germans began singing Christmas carols and were soon followed by the British singing on the other side. Before long, British and German soldiers entered 'No Man's Land' to meet, socialize, and celebrate Christmas with their 'enemies.' After such a miraculous peace, how can they then continue the war after the holiday?
