A little girl comes to pet the stray cats in Krasinski Square. She cannot feed them as there is no extra food in Warsaw during the Nazi occupation. The girl's brave older sister, Mira, struggles to provide food for the two of them. Mira also secretly smuggles food into the Ghetto where the Jewish people are imprisoned. One day, the little girls and her cats are the brave ones as they face in German soldiers and their fierce attack dogs.

This is my favorite book ever! I loved it so much! Even though it was a little kid book, I still liked reading it.

In years past 15-year-old Mary Alice has sruggled to tolerate week-long visits to Grandma Dowdel's home in rural Illinois. And now she has to leave the city of Chicago and spend a whole year 'down yonder'! After few bumpy patches, Mary Alice sees a whole new side of Grandma and begins to appreciate her caring heart and very clever mind. They have a number of adventures together as they try to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table during the Depression.
